Education, Agriculture, and Food Sovereignty in Guatemala

Seeds, rights, policy

The documentary would examine the history of Guatemala’s 2014 Monsanto Law, which was repealed following widespread public opposition, and the renewed debate surrounding seed regulations in 2026.

Through conversations with students, teachers, farmers, and Indigenous community members, we would explore how these policies intersect with traditional agricultural knowledge, access to seeds, and the preservation of local farming practices.

Why this film matters

The future of farming depends on more than what grows in the soil.

It also depends on who holds knowledge, who makes decisions, and whether farmers can shape their own futures.

The goal is to encourage critical thinking, facilitate conversations between generations, and explore practical ways communities can preserve their knowledge and maintain meaningful choices in agriculture.
